In this episode, I had the opportunity to chat with Louis Duncan-He, a fantastic Calgary-based designer and multi-passionate entrepreneur to talk all about his entrepreneurial journey and having a resilient mindset that helps him rise about what others may think.

About Louis Duncan-He

Louis Duncan-He, founder and principal of Louis Duncan-Designs is an award-winning, internationally published Calgary-based designer and decorator that believes spaces should be timeless, authentic, and expressively your own. Raised in the Pacific Northwest, his signature West Coast perspective plays on the innate tension between elegant and relaxed, bold and effortless, and refined and organic.

At Louis Duncan-He Designs, our unique client-centered approach strives to thoughtfully reveal the authentic aspirations of each individual to create spaces that are inspired and restorative to the soul. Whether you have a very developed sense of style or have no idea where to start, we’re here to meet you wherever you are. Above all else, we promise our journey together will be collaborative, insightful, and fun.

Notable accolades include being one of Coveted Magazine’s +100 Top International Interior Designers of 2020Avenue Magazine’s 2019 Top 40 Under 40 Award, serving as a monthly design columnist for Canadian Reno and Decor, and features in such publications as Reveal by the Property Brothers

Through the episode, Louis shares his career path and details about his multiple entrepreneurial endeavors. Being a multi-passionate individual, Louis has started multiple successful businesses in the marketing and interior design industries.

Louis speaks a lot about his mindset, and how he believes that the more successful people, more specifically entrepreneurs, are those who do not listen to other people’s opinions on their ventures. As an entrepreneur, it’s already incredibly taxing to start and run your own business and stay confident in what you are attempting to do because of all the ups and downs of business. If you listen to what other people have to say, you may end up talking yourself out of a great opportunity and advancement!  It doesn’t really matter what other people do or think – do you!

You can be whoever you want to be. You can be someone who does a lot of things or someone who does one thing. There’s no rule, and anyone that tells you there is, they’re not going to be in the same space as you.
